Around our site you have probably read "TRIO" in many places. That is because Upward Bound is just one of the educational programs under the umbrella organization of TRIO.
TRIO was started in 1965, and began with Upward Bound, after the Economic Opportunity Act of 1964 was put in place as a way to combat poverty. Shortly after, Talent Search was created as part of the Higher Education Act. Then, in 1968 Student Support Services became the third addition to what is now "TRIO" in recognition of these first 3 programs.
